Ferrari just unveiled the super fast 599 GTO at this years Beijing Auto Show. The car, an evolution of the 599XX track machine, carries its new designation in honor of previous Ferrari race cars turned loose on the street, such as the 250 GTO and the F40s predecessor, the 288 GTO. Calling it the fastest road-going Ferrari ever, the factory says the front-engine rear-drive 599 GTO, which develops 670 bhp and 457 lb.-ft. of torque, holds the track record at Fiorano with a lap of 1:24 (although other records show the 510-bhp F430 Scuderia being a tenth of a second quicker). Still, thats nearly a full second faster than the Enzo. The car can accelerate to 62 mph in 3.35 sec. and has a top speed of nearly 208 mph. The 599 GTOs lightweight construction, which features thinner glass and aluminum panels, results in a dry weight of only 3289 lb. That, when factored with the 670 bhp output of the 6.0-liter V-12, means theres just under 5 lb. of weight for each horsepower. In addition, the 599 GTO is equipped with second-generation carbon-ceramic brakes, with 15.7-in. rotors in front and 14.2s in back. New 20-in. wheels are slightly wider than stock, measuring 9.5 in. wide in front and 11.5 in. wide in back. These alloy wheels are shod with Michelin 285/30 front and 315/35 rear high-performance tires. The 599 GTO eschews the rear-pillar winglets of the 599XX, but adopts a number of that cars aerodynamic features including a new nose profile, a flat bottom and unique wheel doughnuts …

Okay, Lamborghini. We get it. It’s got 670 horsepower. It has all-wheel drive. It’s really fast. It’s made for China. It’s a limited edition model. Did you really need to put all of that information in the name? The exclusive features of the car over the standard model perhaps takes less time to describe: An orange stripe symbolizing the “strength of an erupting volcano” (poorly timed) over flat gray paint and… well, that’s about it. Oh, and a numbered badge with the owner’s name. After all, nothing makes you feel special like a numbered badge. Introduced by the Italian supercar builder today at the Beijing Motor Show to solidify its commitment to building its brand in China, the Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce China Limited Edition should help Lamborghini continue to grow its presence in the country, where it expanded business last year by 11 percent and will be launching its eighth Chinese dealership this week.

The Audi A8 L W12 isn’t the only long-wheelbase saloon to debut at this year’s Beijing Motor Show. BMW has a stretched version of the all-new 2011 5 Series that’ll be built and sold exclusively in China. The limo-like Fiver is a full 5.5 inches longer than the standard 5 Series sedan, all of which accounts for additional rear legroom. New rear seat amenities like an entertainment system, adjustable sunblinds and a folding table are on hand, as well. Spec-wise, the long-wheelbase BMW 5 Series isn’t much different than the models sold in other markets. Three six-cylinder engines are available and eight-speed automatic transmissions are standard across the board.
