2008 SEMA: Chevrolet Camaro GS Racecar Concept
FOR MORE SEMA STORIES: www.edmunds.com LAS VEGAS — The blue-and-yellow color scheme of Chevrolet’s Camaro GS Racecar Concept evokes memories of the late Mark Donohue’s championship-winning Camaro from the 1969 Trans Am series. The concept will be on display at the 2008 SEMA Show. The GS concept was developed by North Carolina-based Riley Technologies, working with GM’s Performance Vehicle Operations. Riley already is developing a similar GS-class racing car for the 2009 Grand Am Koni Challenge series. The SEMA car boasts a reinforced chassis and a race-ready suspension, with a production LS3 V8 and a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox. Riley adds a C&R racing radiator, upgraded oil, trans and differential coolers and a 3-inch exhaust system with Coast Fab mufflers. To keep track weight down, the 2010 Camaro gets a carbon fiber hood, deck lid, doors and fenders. The Donohue-inspired deep-blue paint scheme is accented with yellow graphics, yellow racing wheels and a yellow cockpit.

2008 SEMA: Hyundai Genesis Black Camo Coup
CHECK OUT MORE SEMA COVERAGE: www.edmunds.com FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — The wraps have been taken off the latest customized 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, revealing a menacing black camouflage exterior, an APR rear wing and tinted taillights. The Genesis coupe was tuned by Street Concepts and will make its sizzling 2008 SEMA Show debut on November 4. Hyundai confirmed in a statement that it will show off three modified Genesis Coupes at the upcoming SEMA show. This latest version underscores the Korean automaker’s commitment to beefing up its performance-car credibility. In early September, Hyundai said HKS USA will create a Genesis Coupe 2.0t for SEMA. Hyundai says the camo-swathed iteration of the Genesis Coupe was inspired by the stealth fighter jet. The package also features a custom grille design, Volk 19-inch racing wheels, performance tires, a modified suspension and Brembo brakes. The 3.8-liter V6 engine, with an estimated 306 horsepower, has been tweaked with a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust and a cold air intake system. Interior touches include carbon-fiber dashboard trim, a custom Infinity audio system, Cobra seats and black suede accents. Earlier, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe was expected to be delivered to dealers in early February. But in Wednesday’s press release about the Street Concepts Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the automaker said the “production model arrives in spring of 2009.” The horsepower numbers on the Genesis Coupe also appear to have been readjusted …
2011 Audi A8 Spy Video by Inside Line
Spy Photos: 2011 Audi A8 blogs.insideline.com Audi’s biggest and most expensive sedan has been on the market for too long. Sure, it still looks as good, or better, than its competition, but it’s a little behind in the technology and power department. This prototype of the 2011 Audi A8 was caught testing at the Nurburgring recently. It’s scheduled for a official debut in the next few months, but this test mule gives a pretty good idea of what it will look like.

2010 Mercedes-Benz ML450 Hybrid @ 2009 NYIAS
MORE 2009 NEW YORK AUTO SHOW @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com The 2010 Mercedes-Benz ML450 Hybrid is the German automaker’s first production gas-electric hybrid, with a dual-mode system that matches exceptional power and torque with relatively good fuel economy. The hybrid crossover debuts this week at the 2009 New York Auto Show. The dual-mode system was developed in partnership with BMW, Chrysler and General Motors, and is similar in concept to the system used in the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. In this particular application, Mercedes-Benz mates a gasoline engine — a specially designed 3.5-liter Atkinson-cycle V6 — with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), twin electric motors, four clutches and the company’s 4Matic all-wheel drive. The combination delivers 335 horsepower and 381 pound-feet of torque, while returning 21 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway. Zero-to-60 acceleration takes 7.8 seconds, and top speed is just over 130 mph. In comparison, the 2010 Lexus RX 450h, which also uses a 3.5-liter V6, delivers a combined 295 hp and returns 28 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway for the all-wheel-drive edition. Both the Lexus and the Mercedes hybrids use nickel-metal hydride batteries. Mercedes-Benz says the ML450 Hybrid has a theoretical range of more than 500 miles on a single tank of gas. With its dual-mode system, the ML450 Hybrid can operate under pure electric power at low speeds, switching to the gasoline engine under mid-to-heavy throttle …
Volkswagen GTI @ 2009 New York Auto Show
MORE 2009 NYIAS @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com It’s the civility you notice first. There is no drama here — no compromises that have to be made in order to enjoy the turbocharged performance. In fact, when VW first developed the 2010 Volkswagen GTI, it proved to be so quiet that the engineers had to develop an electronic “sound generator” to deliver the proper aural stimulation to the driver. When the 2010 VW GTI debuts alongside the standard 2010 Volkswagen Golf (née Rabbit, as VW has decided to return to this car’s traditional model name even for the US market), it will be presented as a sophisticated German alternative to the Honda Civic Si and Mazda 3. It will debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show and finally reach showrooms in October. The price of the two-door hatchback will start from around $24000, while the four-door version will cost about $500 more.
Kia Forte Koup @ 2009 New York Auto Show
MORE 2009 NYIAS @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com Kia is entering the compact coupe fray this spring with a production version of last year’s Koup concept, introduced at the 2009 New York Auto Show. The 2010 Forte Koup shares its underpinnings with the new Forte sedan that was displayed in February at the Chicago show. Slightly shorter and lower than the sedan, the five-passenger Forte Koup is aimed at such competitors as the Scion tc, the Honda Civic, the Chevrolet Cobalt and the Ford Focus. It is being offered in two trim levels, EX and SX. The Forte Koup EX comes with a 156-horsepower DOHC 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Its EPA city/highway fuel economy numbers are 25 mpg and 34 mpg, respectively, with either transmission. The Forte Koup SX gets a larger, more powerful DOHC 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 173 hp and 168 pound-feet of torque. With the standard six-speed manual transmission, it is EPA rated at 22/32 mpg, while the optional five-speed automatic changes the fuel-economy ratings to 23/31 mpg. Both models come with standard air conditioning, tilt steering column, power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, cruise control and a six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and full ipod controls. The Forte Koup SX is the trim level of choice. It comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and 215/45R-17 tires, as well as sport cloth bucket seats with …
