Department of Education. Straight Up: Episode 3: Self-Image and Life Skills. Academy award winning actor Lou Gossett, Jr. and young TV star Chad Allen (NBC’s Our House) appear in this story about a boy named Ben who faces peer pressure to use alcohol and drugs. During Ben’s struggle to resist drugs, he meets Cosmo, played by Lou. Producer: Department of Education. Creative Commons license: Public Domain Drugs are chemicals that change the way a person’s body works. You’ve probably heard that drugs are bad for you, but what does that mean and why are they bad? Medicines Are Legal Drugs If you’ve ever been sick and had to take medicine, you already know about one kind of drugs. Medicines are legal drugs, meaning doctors are allowed to prescribe them for patients, stores can sell them, and people are allowed to buy them. But it’s not legal, or safe, for people to use these medicines any way they want or to buy them from people who are selling them illegally. Cigarettes and Alcohol Cigarettes and alcohol are two other kinds of legal drugs. (In the United States, adults 18 and over can buy cigarettes and those 21 and over can buy alcohol.) But smoking and excessive drinking are not healthy for adults and off limits for kids. Illegal Drugs When people talk about the “drug problem,” they usually mean abusing legal drugs or using illegal drugs, such as marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, LSD, crystal meth and heroin. (Marijuana is generally an illegal drug, but some states allow doctors

Soultravelers3-Alsace, France-Grape Harvest!

March 19, 2010 · Filed Under Travel Videos · Comment

This is the first in our Soultravelers3 series about touring great wine regions of the world! Late this past fall of 2008, we arrived in Colmar, France and the many beautiful ancient wine villages along the Alsace route des Vins. Our 7 year old “Mozart” who has been visiting vineyards since she helped put a small Pinot Noir one in with her daddy at 5 months old in California, loved picking these very sweet grapes. We did not know then that she would be spending her childhood running through famous vineyards around the world! The autumn colors were as beautiful as any painting and surprisingly there were very few tourists around. We had just left behind the Romantic Road in Germany and were delighted to discover this area of France ( near both Switzerland and Germany borders) which has a unique heritage making a German/French mix. The stunning wine road winds it’s way through 170 kms of vineyards, medieval castles, Vosges forests, Romanesque churches and picturesque villages. We were based at a campground in Colmar which is known for it’s historic beauty, gourmet foods and hospitality. What fun to explore their “little Venice” and do some wine tasting, shopping & museum exploring as we walked about. The wines of Alsace are always presented in a tall slender bottle and come from 7 grape varieties: Sylvaner ,Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Muscat d’Alsace, Tokay Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer. We loved this song by talented singer Emilie-Claire Barlow who graciously
